Intellectual - Mild Intellectual Disability

Ministry Criteria

A learning disorder characterized by:

an ability to profit educationally within a regular class with the aid of considerable curriculum modification and supportive services;
an inability to profit educationally within a regular class because of slow intellectual development;
a potential for academic learning, independent social adjustment, and economic self-support.

Board Criteria

The student's general intellectual abilities range from the 0.2 to the 8th percentile on a measure of general intelligence,

AND

the student's adaptive functioning is at or below the 8th percentile on a measure of adaptive behaviour.

Requirements

A written report from a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons or a member of the College of Psychologists (or an individual directly supervised by a member) which clearly delineates the student's general intellectual abilities and adaptive functioning or which provides a diagnosis.
