Intellectual - Developmental Disability

Ministry Criteria

A severe learning disorder characterized by:

  • an inability to profit from a Special Education program for students with mild intellectual disabilities because of slow intellectual development;
  • an ability to profit from a Special Education program that is designed to accommodate slow intellectual development;
  • a limited potential for academic learning, independent social adjustment and economic self-support.

 

Board Criteria

The student's general intellectual abilities are at or below the 0.1 percentile on a measure of general intelligence,

AND

the student's adaptive functioning is at or below the 0.1 percentile on a measure of adaptive functioning.

 

Requirements

A written report from a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons or a member of the College of Psychologists (or an individual directly supervised by a member) which clearly delineates the student's general intellectual abilities and adaptive functioning or which provides a diagnosis.
