Juan Rivas, founder and leader of the San Cristobal Technical School, will visit Hamilton on Thursday, May 16th. He is also scheduled to participate in the Dominican Republic Faith Experience Fundraiser on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the newly inaugurated St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Please refer to this flyer for more details.

Juan looks forward to meeting those who have supported the Sustainable Agricultural Projects in the Dominican Republic, aimed at aiding residents of the Bateys. These initiatives have garnered backing from the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board Pilgrimage, with significant contributions from St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School to fund the San Cristobal School.

One notable initiative is the Vegetable and Fruit Garden Project, which assists Haitians formerly employed under harsh conditions in the sugar cane fields of the Dominican Republic. With the decline of the sugar industry, these workers now cultivate essential skills in gardening and agriculture through the project. This program not only provides valuable work experience but also sustains over 4,300 people in their communities by supplying fresh produce.
